Mechanical Design Engineer

The Company

Premier Labellers was founded in 1994 at a small farm in Harwich. Since then we have grown significantly and now reside at our current Bathside Bay site where we manufacture over 120 machines per year, and contract pack millions of product for our customers. We are proud to be one of few remaining true British manufactures of self-adhesive labelling machinery and have a high standard of customer satisfaction.

The Position

We are now looking for a dedicated full-time Mechanical Design Engineer to join our engineering team. Your role will form a crucial part of our business so you must be willing to take on plenty of responsibility within a small team, and be able to react swiftly and positively to customer requests. You should also be proactive in our continuous improvement efforts.

Main Duties

​

  • Use SolidWorks to create and modify components and full machines.

  • Use the 3D printer for research and design, and for printed mechical parts used across site.

  • Proactively work with our engineering team to identify and upgrade machines and their assemblies.

  • Occasionally attend customer sites to gain valuable design feedback and to undertake design surveys.

  • Keep records of mechanical changes to ISO9001 standards.

  • Provide drawings to the sales team when required.

  • Work with the electrical and software design team to ensure a fully compliant build across departments.

  • Work with suppliers to maintain and update components for the machines.

  • Deliver an extremely high standard of customer support.

  • Prioritise the technical concerns and issues of customers from many locations.

The Ideal Candidate

​

  • We do not require a strict number of years' experience, providing you can do the work.

  • Will know how to/be able to learn to operate a 3D printer.

  • Have a passion for engineering and design.

  • Experience in SolidWorks would be a bonus, but any 3D design programme experience is acceptable.

  • A positive and outgoing attitude, even when dealing with difficult situations.

  • Excellent customer service and communication skills.

  • Professional and well-presented.

The Location and Working Hours

​

This position is a full-time role Monday – Friday.

Office hours are 08:30-17:00 Mon-Thu, and 08:30-16:00 Fri. We are open to flexible hours of ±2 hours outside of this.

We are happy for the right person to be hybrid home/office based, or full-time in the office.

Expected Salary

​

£ 40,000 - 50,000 per annum

​

  • 20 days paid holiday, plus Christmas shutdown period.

  • +1 day holiday per year of service (capped at 25 total)
